{"id":2361,"date":"2013-08-19T09:02:30","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T13:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/livestock\/?page_id=2361"},"modified":"2018-11-14T13:00:37","modified_gmt":"2018-11-14T18:00:37","slug":"participant-requirements-expectations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/livestock\/sheep-entrepreneurs\/participant-requirements-expectations\/","title":{"rendered":"Participant Requirements &amp; Expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Each participating farm . . .<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>must have less than 10 years of sheep experience. <i>Producers with over 10 years of sheep experience can participate in some educational portions of the project.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>is encouraged to be an active member of the Maine Sheep Breeders Association\/American Sheep Industry Association.<\/li>\n<li>will pay a nominal fee of $75.00\/farm to help offset project expenses.<\/li>\n<li>must have an active e-mail address and access to the Internet.<\/li>\n<li>will keep a journal (recorded or written) to document their personal growth.<\/li>\n<li>is required to keep production records of their sheep, including 30, 60, and 90 day weights of lambs and brood ewe performance\/year.<\/li>\n<li>will use Scrapie ear tags to identify individual sheep on their farm.<\/li>\n<li>will be required to have a written biosecurity plan for their farming operation.<\/li>\n<li>is required to keep financial records of their sheep enterprise.<\/li>\n<li>will learn to use Quickbooks for their farm enterprises.<\/li>\n<li>will plan to submit an annual Schedule F to the IRS.<\/li>\n<li>will develop a portfolio documenting their mastering of skills and knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>must have a written business plan by the end of year 1.<i> Their respective plan can be changed at any time.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>is encouraged over the 30-month period to participate in at least one (1) of the following <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnwest.edu\/index.php\/management\/lamb-and-wool\/online-sheep-management\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheep Management Courses<\/a> (online) currently offered by the Pipestone Lamb &amp; Wool Program:\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to Sheep Management \u2013 LWMP 1001 \u2013 one credit<\/li>\n<li>Equipment &amp; Facilities\u00a0\u2013 LWMP 1202 \u2013 two credits<\/li>\n<li>Introduction to Sheep Health\u00a0\u2013 LWMP 1300 \u2013 two credits<\/li>\n<li>Ewe Ration Formulation\u00a0\u2013 LWMP 1502 \u2013 one credit<\/li>\n<li>Wool Characteristics and Properties\u00a0\u2013 LWMP 1701 \u2013 two credits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>will view\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnwest.edu\/index.php\/management\/lamb-and-wool\/lambing-time-series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lambing Time Management Series<\/a> (Recorded Presentations from Pipestone Lamb &amp; Wool program).<\/li>\n<li>will be strongly encouraged to participate in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnwest.edu\/index.php\/management\/lamb-and-wool\/sheep-for-profit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheep for Profit School<\/a> offered by Pipestone Lamb &amp; Wool program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each participating farm . . . must have less than 10 years of sheep experience.
