What’s the Cost to Get Your Goat: A tool for the farm financials of raising meat goats in Maine
June 12, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Jacki Martinez Perkins and Nicolas Lindholm of MOFGA, in partnership with the Cumberland County Food Security Council, built a financial analysis tool to help support and inform historically underserved farmers in Maine raise culturally important livestock species. This spreadsheet tool is meant to use current, real-world data inputs to help growers and technical service providers build an understanding of the costs and flexibilities within individual livestock operations for things like feed, infrastructure, labor, pricing considerations, etc.
Please join our team for a virtual walkthrough of how we set up the tool, and the ways in which it can be used and adjusted while remaining current through time.
This work was funded in part by a grant through USDA’s Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers Program.
