Financial Management for Horticulture

January 5, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host a webinar focused on building financial literacy and management skills for commercial horticulture businesses.

Chris Laughton, Director of Knowledge Exchange at Farm Credit East, will lead a discussion on financial management fundamentals essential for running a successful horticultural enterprise. Laughton draws on his hands-on experience in his family’s greenhouse and nursery business to provide practical financial guidance to beginning farmers.

Topics will include understanding financial statements such as balance sheets and income statements, developing cash flow budgets, and navigating financing and credit options. Time will be provided for questions and discussion. Participants will gain practical tools to help make informed financial decisions and strengthen the long-term sustainability of their businesses.

The webinar is part of UMaine Extension’s Commercial Horticulture Webinar Series, held on the first Monday of each month.

Registration is required; sliding scale fee options are available. To register, visit the Commercial Horticulture Webinar Series page.
