{"id":4126,"date":"2019-07-25T11:15:29","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T15:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/maine-farmer-resource-network\/?p=4126"},"modified":"2019-07-25T11:19:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-25T15:19:07","slug":"climate-impacts-on-maine-wild-blueberry-farms-interview-with-david-yarborough-phd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/maine-farmer-resource-network\/2019\/07\/25\/climate-impacts-on-maine-wild-blueberry-farms-interview-with-david-yarborough-phd\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate Impacts on Maine Wild Blueberry Farms: Interview with David Yarborough, PhD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">To better understand the impacts of climate change on blueberry farms, we asked UMaine Cooperative Extension\u2019s David Yarborough* to reflect on his 40 years of experience advising Maine growers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">David has noticed changes in weather patterns during his career, including \u201cboth an earlier spring and a later fall\u201d leading to a longer growing season, \u201cmore erratic frosts and freezes,\u201d and the drought-inducing combination of \u201chigher summer temperatures and less summer precipitation.\u201d David suggests that emerging management issues related to these changes include the need for irrigation in crop fields, and new diseases and insect pests that can impact blueberry yields.
