SUMMARY:Sugarbush Management Field Day at Nutkin Knoll Farm
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to register for this program by Friday\, July 24!\nJoin UMaine Extension\, Maine Forest Service\, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service\, Audubon\, MOFGA and others for a full day field tour at Nutkin Knoll Farm in Newburgh. \nMaple sugarbush management can be a complex process. Extreme weather along with new and native forest pests increase the importance of intentional forest management planning. Fortunately\, there are several service provider groups and experienced sugarbush managers to support those looking to learn more about the process. This program is designed for sugarbush managers\, consulting foresters\, forestry service providers\, and those looking to learn more about sugarbush management. \nTopics discussed will include: \nThe influence of forest conditions on sap yields \n\nAssessing sugarbush habitat\nForestry approaches to enhance sugarbush resilience\nInvasive species management\nCertification programs\nCost share opportunities for management\nAnd more.\n\nParticipants are eligible to earn 5 Category 1 SAF CEU credits. Lunch will be provided. \nThis program will be held outdoors and include a relatively long forest walking tour (two hours with frequent stops). Please wear appropriate footwear and bring bug spray and water for yourself. SUMMARY:2026 2-Day International Maple Grading School in Ontario
DESCRIPTION:The International Maple Grading School is for maple producers\, bulk syrup buyers\, state inspectors\, and others needing to accurately grade maple syrup or judge maple product entries at fairs and contests. Quality control issues are also addressed. This school provides a strong scientific base combined with intensive hands-on exercises. This approach enables participants to learn how to grade or judge maple products with confidence. \nRegistration includes lunch for both days (Oct 19 & 20)\, take-home grading tools\, print resources\, and two days of lectures and hands-on learning.
