Her familiarity with the native flora inspires her creative use of natives in the garden. The need to educate others about their native flora\, its beauty\, mystery\, and benefit to the ecosystem led her to cofound Native Gardens of Blue Hill in 2015. She holds a BS in environmental design and planning and an MS in ecology. She is a certified National Green Infrastructure Practitioner. She is the author of “Winterland: Creating a beautiful garden for every season\,” which focuses on garden design that can be enjoyed beyond the growing season. \nUpcoming webinars in the Series:\n\nMonday\, December 1\, 2025 – Right-Sizing Your Flower Farm: What I Learned from Three Different Setups\nMonday\, January 5\, 2026 – Financial Management for Your Commercial Horticulture Business\nMonday\, February 2\, 2026 – Integrated Weed Management for Ornamental Greenhouse Crops\nMonday March 2\, 2026 –  Managing Pests in Cut Flowers

SUMMARY:Right-Sizing Your Flower Farm: What I Learned from Three Different Setups
DESCRIPTION:Join the University of Maine Cooperative Extension on the first Monday of each month for our Commercial Horticulture Webinar Series\, designed to support Maine’s green industry\, including nursery and cut flower production\, landscape design\, installation\, maintenance\, and more. \nEach 75-minute session will feature a presentation followed by Q&A and discussion. \nJulia Baecher started East of Eden as a backyard passion project in 2012 and has since farmed at three different scales; from a home plot to a six-acre leased (and later owned) property\, and back again. Each move brought new lessons in efficiency\, investment\, and profitability. In this session\, she’ll share what worked\, what didn’t\, and offer a practical framework to help new flower farmers make smart infrastructure decisions from the start. \nRegistration is required\, with a sliding scale fee ($0-$15) per session. Zoom access details will be provided upon registration. \nRecordings will be available and sent to participants approximately one week after each event. \nCan’t attend live? Register anyway to receive access to the recording and a list of related resources. \nRegister Online:  Right-Sizing Your Flower Farm: What I Learned from Three Different Setups \nAbout the Speaker\nJulia Baecher is the owner-operator of East of Eden Flower Farm\, a small specialty flower farm in Bowdoinham\, Maine. Focusing on seasonal blooms from early spring tulips through summer peonies and fall dahlias\, Julia is developing expertise in extending the growing season for cut flowers in Maine’s climate. The farm sells primarily through their on-site seasonal farmstand\, building direct relationships with customers who appreciate locally-grown\, seasonal flowers. \nUpcoming Webinars in the Series: \n\nMonday\, January 5\, 2026 – Financial Management for Your Commercial Horticulture Business\nMonday\, February 2\, 2026 – Integrated Weed Management for Ornamental Greenhouse Crops\nMonday March 2\, 2026 –  Managing Pests in Cut Flowers
