Youth ages 9-12 will be involved in all aspects of growing, harvesting and preparing food and flowers. Our new farmers will

  • sow seeds,
  • care for crops,
  • harvest cut flowers,
  • save seeds,
  • pick produce, and
  • learn how to manage pests and diseases in the garden.

Additionally, the group will help create a collaborative art installation at the farm. The week of gardening will culminate in a morning focused on developing culinary skills with chef Dumas, who previously served as a chef in the White House for four years. Developing basic food preparation skills, an understanding of food safety and fostering a love of healthy and delicious foods are the goals for the culinary portion of this summer camp.
