Rogers Farm Annual Report 2024
What’s Been Happening at Rogers Farm Demonstration Garden in 2024?
Educating our visitors in sustainable horticultural practices and empowering them through service learning opportunities which strengthen our local food system.
Maine Harvest for Hunger
Our local team partnered with farmers and UMaine researchers to grow, gather and distribute 11,210 pounds of produce to 23 area food security organizations.
Field Trips and Group Tours
Over 610 youth and 247 adult learners participated in hands-on learning experiences fostering practical gardening skills and deepening connections to our natural world.
Summer Camp
Youth ages 9-12 cultivated, harvested and prepared food and flowers and engaged in community service activities. Instructors included UMaine Extension 4-H, horticulture, agriculture, food safety and nutrition staff; farmers; chefs; and an artist.
Public Events and Self-Guided Visits
Family-friendly events such as our annual Field Day and new Storytime in the Garden series welcomed new audiences while educational signage throughout the garden and our DIY bouquet station allowed visitors to engage with the garden at their own pace.
Volunteer
Volunteers of all abilities and with various schedules are welcome. No prior gardening experience is needed.
Tasks include garden maintenance, harvesting, maintaining and organizing tools and supplies, woodworking, produce distribution and assisting with field trips and group tours. Reach out to identify an opportunity that aligns with your schedule, interests and skill set.
