\"4-H<\/em><\/strong>4-H Clubs, Teams, and Groups<\/h3>\n

The towns listed below are where 4-H clubs, teams or groups meet, but youth from anywhere are welcome to participate if they are willing to travel.<\/p>\n

  • Greenville Super Science Club \u2013 <\/strong>Greenville<\/li>\n
  • Wild Blueberry Cloverbuds Club \u2013<\/strong> Greenville<\/li>\n
  • 4-H Youth Voice, Youth Choice (YVYC) \u2013 <\/strong>Milo<\/li>\n
  • 4-H After School \u2013 <\/strong>Brownville<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    4-H Club and Group News<\/h3>\n

    Piscataquis County 4-H Clubs have been very active this year with projects, fundraisers, events, and trips.<\/p>\n

    Two members of the Greenville Super Science 4-H Club represented Piscataquis County at the State Public Speaking Tournament. Both received blue ribbons. Thanks go to Janet Yelch-Weatherbee who assisted with judging at this event.<\/p>\n

    \"CitizenOne member of the Greenville Super Science 4-H Club represented Maine at the 4-H National Conference at the National 4-H Center near Washington DC this year. She will also represent Maine at the 4-H National Congress in Atlanta, Georgia this fall. Three Piscataquis County 4-H youth also attended the Citizenship Washington Focus this summer, at the National 4-H Center near Washington DC.<\/p>\n

    The spring afterschool 4-H program offered at the Brownville Elementary School, for grades 3 and 4 from Milo and Brownville area, included topics of arts and crafts, gardening, and kitchen chemistry. Twenty-five youth from this program were able to participate in a special spring trip to UMaine. While there, they visited the Emera Planetarium, the Witter Center Farm, the climbing wall and the aquaculture program.<\/p>\n

    \"ChildrenMilo high school horticulture students, with leader Hailey Emery, worked with middle school students as part of the 4-H Youth Voice, Youth Choice program.<\/p>\n

    Five Piscataquis County youth and one volunteer participated in the 4-H@UMaine: Connecting Kids to Campus for youth ages 12 to 18 to experience campus life and explore career opportunities through experiential workshops in science and several other fields.<\/p>\n

    Honors\/ Awards<\/h3>\n

    Greenville Super Science 4-H Club entered the Envirothon and won 2nd<\/sup> statewide out of a field of twelve teams. Envirothon tests what youth know about Wildlife, Forestry, Aquatics, and Soils.<\/p>\n

    A 4-Her won the Piscataquis County 4-H Leaders Association and Maine 4-H Foundation matching Post-Secondary Scholarship. She was presented with a green and white honor cord that she wore to her graduation.<\/p>\n

    Piscataquis Valley Fair<\/h3>\n

    Fair time is an exciting time for 4-H members as it is an opportunity to exhibit their 4-H projects whether it is cooking, crafts, computers, carrots, canines or cows.<\/p>\n

    Members and leaders also help staff the 4-H exhibit hall and small animal land to help tell their 4-H story to the people who come to the fair.<\/p>\n

    Advanced Training<\/h3>\n

    \"BoyA Piscataquis County 4-H Leader and her son, attended the national 4-H shooting sports curriculum training at the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center this spring. This leader is currently certified in rifle, archery, hunting, wildlife and shotgun and looks forward to offering these shooting sports activities to Piscataquis County youth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
