Some important fields include:\n<ul>\n<li>Citizen\/residency<\/li>\n<li>Funding type<\/li>\n<li>Applicant type<\/li>\n<li>Keywords: browse or type to search<\/li>\n<li>Activity location \u2013 important to finding local opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Section of things to exclude from search<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Set up groups to share information about specific grants or projects<\/li>\n<li>Add tags to track opportunities and to organize them by project or group<\/li>\n<li>Track grant deadlines and set reminders and updates<\/li>\n<li>Find your saved searches and shared info under the Home menu<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Foundation Directory Online<\/strong> is a resource to find Foundations that award grants and see the types of organizations and projects they have funded in the past and how much they generally award.<\/li>\n<li>Other tabs on the Fogler site offer grant writing tips, workshops, and sample documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tips, next steps, and the grant process for Extension and UMaine<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Talk to PAs and other colleagues about their experiences or knowledge about specific grants or funders (which ones might be difficult to work with or to get approved)<\/li>\n<li>Find out all the steps you will need to follow with Extension and Office of Research Development and Administration:\n<ul>\n<li>Plugged-In Resource: <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/plugged-in\/forms-templates-tools\/tools\/grant-writing-checklist\/\">https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/plugged-in\/forms-templates-tools\/tools\/grant-writing-checklist\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>UMaine Extension&#8217;s Guide to External Funds: <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/plugged-in\/purchasing\/external-funds\/\">https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/plugged-in\/purchasing\/external-funds\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Office of Research and Development: <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-development\/\">https:\/\/umaine.edu\/research-development\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Office of Research Administration: <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/ora\/\">https:\/\/umaine.edu\/ora\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>ORA Resources page: <a href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/ora\/resources\/\">https:\/\/umaine.edu\/ora\/resources\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Big Picture steps:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Find and research grant opportunities: review eligibility requirements; talk to colleagues, choose what to apply for<\/li>\n<li>Start process with ORA \u2013 Notice of Intent form to get your application in the queue\n<ul>\n<li>Your final request needs to be received by ORA at least 15 business days prior to the grant deadline<\/li>\n<li>ORA submits the final grant application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Write narratives and create the budget<\/li>\n<li>If the grant is awarded, work with Extension and ORA to set up chartfields and make a plan for managing grant funds.\n<ul>\n<li>Michael can help with payroll details\/current salaries, budgeting, chartfields, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Amanda can help with procurement process details<\/li>\n<li>Fran can help if new positions are needed\n<ul>\n<li>Cost of positions<\/li>\n<li>Descriptions &amp; PDQs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hosted by the Extension Professional Committee on November 17, 2020 Presenter: Jen Bonnet, Librarian Fogler Library jenbonnet@maine.edu (please contact Jen if you have additional questions or need assistance researching grant opportunities.)
