It involves discussing the activity, drawing lessons from the activity, and applying the lessons to the real world. This can be an individual activity or group activity, but it involves \u201cdoing something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Activities can include: demonstrations that involve the youth judging items (e.g., which snack is better for them \u2013 not being judged by others), making exhibits for an event, field trips or recreational activities.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Reflect<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Share \u2013 Next get the group or individual to talk about the experience. Share reactions and observations. Talk freely. Encourage group members to answer questions posed by others. Avoid having the leader answer questions.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sharing Questions<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What did you do?<\/li>\n<li>What happened?<\/li>\n<li>How did you feel?<\/li>\n<li>How did it feel to..?<\/li>\n<li>What was the most difficult? Easiest?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Process \u2013 Discuss how questions are created by the activity. The leader might list some of the reoccurring themes, issues, or questions.<\/p>\n<p><em>Processing Questions<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What problems or issues seemed to occur over and over?<\/li>\n<li>What similar experience have you had?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Apply<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Generalize \u2013 Find general trends or common lessons in the experience. Identify the important points that apply to the \u201creal world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Generating Questions<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What did you learn about yourself through this activity?<\/li>\n<li>What did you learn about (life skill, i.e.., making decisions)?<\/li>\n<li>How do the major themes or ideas relate to real life and not just the activity?<\/li>\n<li>How did you go about making your decision?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Apply \u2013 Talk about how the new information can be applied to everyday life or sometime in the future.<\/p>\n<p><em>Applying Questions<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How can you apply what you learned (making decisions) to a new situation?<\/li>\n<li>How will the issues raised by this activity be useful in the future?<\/li>\n<li>How will you act differently in the future as a result of this activity?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/plugged-in\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2022\/05\/Using-the-Experiential-Learning-Model.docx\" style=\"text-transform:none;\" ><span class=\"button\"> Using the Experiential Learning Model (Word) <\/span><\/a>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 4-H we talk a lot about hands-on learning and experiential learning.
