Se recomienda priorizar el almacenamiento de calostro de alta calidad en su granja en caso que las vacas no lo produzcan. Un estudio reciente inform\u00f3 que el 2,65% de vacas Jersey en el estudio no pudieron producir calostro. El \u00e9xito de los terneros es producto de la implementaci\u00f3n de mejores pr\u00e1cticas de manejo, vacunaci\u00f3n, bioseguridad y protocolos de limpieza. Si a\u00fan tiene dudas sobre su manejo del calostro, considere realizar an\u00e1lisis de sangre en sus terneros que determinen niveles de anticuerpos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El calostro es la primera leche producida por la vaca inmediatamente despu\u00e9s del parto.\u00a0 Este contiene anticuerpos y nutrientes que refuerzan el sistema inmunol\u00f3gico del ternero reci\u00e9n nacido y ayudan con su desarrollo y crecimiento. Los terneros nacen con sistemas inmunol\u00f3gicos no completamente desarrollados pues los anticuerpos maternos, como la inmunoglobulina G (IgG), no pueden atravesar la placenta. Por lo tanto, los terneros deben recibir suficiente calostro de alta calidad lo antes posible despu\u00e9s del nacimiento, para obtener inmunidad pasiva y reducir el riesgo de morbilidad y mortalidad en el per\u00edodo previo al destete. Lo ideal es administrar el calostro dentro de las 2 horas siguientes al parto, pero es absolutamente necesario suministrarlo dentro de las primeras 24 horas. Esto es fundamental pues la pared intestinal del ternero est\u00e1 comenzando a madurar, lo que reduce la absorci\u00f3n de prote\u00ednas m\u00e1s grandes. Desde una perspectiva econ\u00f3mica, los terneros que se alimentan con suficiente calostro son m\u00e1s rentables. Investigaciones previas indican que terneras Pardo Suizo alimentadas con cuatro litros de calostro mostraron menores costos veterinarios, crecieron 29% m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido y produjeron 11 y 17% m\u00e1s leche durante la primera y segunda lactancia respectivamente, en comparaci\u00f3n con terneras alimentados con dos litros de calostro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote><p><b>Anticuerpos &#8211; <\/b>prote\u00ednas que pueden reconocer y eliminar pat\u00f3genos. La inmunoglobulina G (IgG) es el anticuerpo m\u00e1s com\u00fan y protege contra infecciones bacterianas y virales. Se mide en g\/L o mg\/mL.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Recolecci\u00f3n de calostro<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La sanitizaci\u00f3n es importante: desinfecte su equipo de colecta de calostro. \u00a0Utilice equipos de recolecci\u00f3n construidos en acero inoxidable para reducir las posibilidades de crecimiento bacteriano. Algunos proveedores de servicios poseen medidores de ATP para determinar materia org\u00e1nica presente en la superficie de los biberones y baldes de recolecci\u00f3n de calostro. Implementar un lavado \u00e1cido ayuda a eliminar residuos de s\u00f3lidos de la leche y garantiza un equipo de alimentaci\u00f3n limpio entre cada ternero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Medici\u00f3n de la calidad del calostro<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Alimentar con calostro de baja calidad es ineficaz; por lo tanto, se recomienda analizar el calostro de cada vaca y almacenar aquel que muestre mayor calidad. La calidad del calostro no es afectada por el n\u00famero de lactancias, y se debe alimentar con calostro de alta calidad procedente de vacas prim\u00edparas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emplea un sustituto de calostro a base de l\u00e1cteos si el calostro colectado debe descartarse, si las vacas no producen suficiente cantidad o si hay posibilidad de transmisi\u00f3n de enfermedades (como la enfermedad de Johnes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A continuaci\u00f3n, se presentan dos m\u00e9todos para evaluar la calidad del calostro en las granjas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Calostr\u00f3metro<\/strong>: Este es un hidr\u00f3metro con una escala codificada por colores que mide la gravedad espec\u00edfica de IgG en mg\/ml o g\/l. Para usarlo, coloque el calostr\u00f3metro en un cilindro con calostro a temperatura ambiente (72 \u00b0F). Refractometro en uso.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Calibre el refract\u00f3metro y coloque 2 o 3 gotas de calostro sobre la superficie de vidrio.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Baje la tapa sobre la muestra para que el calostro se extienda por toda la superficie sin burbujas de aire ni puntos secos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Espere 15 segundos antes de tomar una lectura; la muestra se ajustar\u00e1 a la temperatura ambiente.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sostenga el refract\u00f3metro a la luz natural mientras observa por el ocular. Evite luces fluorescentes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Al observar por el ocular (que se muestra en la foto), ver\u00e1 un campo circular con graduaciones en el centro. La escala debe medir cero en el punto donde se unen las \u00e1reas claras y oscuras. De lo contrario, aj\u00fastelo con el tornillo de calibraci\u00f3n.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lea el valor brix de la muestra de calostro<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Calostro post cosecha y almacenamiento<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Considere un m\u00e9todo de pre-enfriamiento, como un ba\u00f1o de hielo, que disminuya la temperatura del calostro r\u00e1pidamente despu\u00e9s de la colecta y antes de su almacenamiento en un refrigerador o congelador.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El calostro se puede almacenar en un refrigerador limpio (al menos a 40 \u00b0F para reducir el crecimiento bacteriano) por un lapso de 4 a 6 d\u00edas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Si el calostro no ser\u00e1 suministrado prontamente a los terneros, p\u00f3ngalo en refrigeraci\u00f3n o congelaci\u00f3n inmediatamente despu\u00e9s de la colecta. Use botellas o bolsas limpias y etiquete los recipientes de calostro con la identificaci\u00f3n de la vaca, la fecha de recolecci\u00f3n e indique el nivel de IgG o alg\u00fan indicador de la calidad del calostro. Las temperaturas de almacenamiento deben ser de -5 \u00b0F. El calostro se puede congelar hasta por un a\u00f1o con una p\u00e9rdida m\u00ednima de calidad (mejor usarlo dentro de los primeros 6 meses).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Almacenar el calostro de manera eficaz es importante para mantener niveles bajos de bacterias en la leche suministrada a los terneros. La verificaci\u00f3n aleatoria de los recuentos bacterianos del calostro puede ayudar a identificar \u00e1reas de oportunidad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Alimentaci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La temperatura \u00f3ptima del calostro para alimentaci\u00f3n es de 102 \u00b0F (100 a 106 \u00b0F). Considere d\u00f3nde est\u00e1 calentando y d\u00f3nde\/cu\u00e1ndo est\u00e1 alimentando para que la temperatura no baje dr\u00e1sticamente.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alimente con calostro fresco dentro de la media hora posterior a su recolecci\u00f3n.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El calostro congelado debe descongelarse lentamente <strong>y la temperatura del agua no debe superar los 140 \u00b0F<\/strong>, ya que temperaturas mayores dificultar\u00e1n la absorci\u00f3n de anticuerpos del ternero. Use un term\u00f3metro o una unidad de calentamiento controlado. Si usa un ba\u00f1o mar\u00eda, configure la temperatura entre 120 a 125 \u00b0F durante al menos 30 minutos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El calostro refrigerado debe calentarse lentamente entre 105 a 110 \u00b0F durante al menos 15 minutos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Resumen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Las \u201c3 Q\u201d del calostro son fundamentales para la salud de los terneros reci\u00e9n nacidos y su \u00e9xito como futuras vacas lecheras en lactancia.\u00a0<strong>Cantidad (Quantity)<\/strong>: los terneros necesitan beber al menos 10% de su peso corporal en calostro para recibir nutrientes esenciales e inmunidad pasiva.\u00a0<strong>Calidad (Quality)<\/strong>: el calostro debe contener al menos 50 g\/l de IgG para obtener inmunidad pasiva.\u00a0<strong>Velocidad (Quickly)<\/strong>: el calostro debe administrarse de inmediato (idealmente dentro de las primeras 2 horas) para garantizar la absorci\u00f3n de IgG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bibliograf\u00eda<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>AHDB dairy (2015).
