In the morning, join UMaine Cooperative Extension and SMMSA for Maple Syrup 101: Intro to Backyard Sugaring, where experienced sugarmakers will offer demonstrations and discussion on all aspects of making maple syrup – the sweetest gift of nature – in your own back yard!

In the afternoon, join us for Sap Collection 201: Scaling up Your Maple Operation, and learn about setting up tubing sap collection systems for the small to medium-sized producer from experienced sugarmakers, then tour Maple Moon Farm to see their tubing system in action!

Maple Syrup 101: Intro to Backyard Sugaring

January 18, 2020 | 9 am to 11:30 am | $10 per person

Join experienced sugarmakers for demonstrations and discussion on all aspects of making maple syrup – the sweetest gift of nature – in your own back yard!

UMaine Extension and the Southern Maine Maple Sugarmakers Association will join forces to teach about identifying and tapping trees, collecting and boiling sap, and filtering, grading and canning syrup.

Sap Collection 201: Scaling Up Your Maple Operation

12:30 pm to 3 pm | $10 per person

Was trudging through the snow after every sap run exhausting last season? Do you wish your maple sap collection was quicker and easier?

Come to this workshop to learn about setting up tubing sap collection systems for the small to medium-sized producer. Experienced sugarmakers from Nash Valley Farm and Thurston and Peters’ Sugarhouse will discuss considerations for preparing for and installing a tubing sap collection system. We’ll then go to Maple Moon Farm to tour their 500 tap sugarbush and tubing system.
