Join UMaine Cooperative Extension and the Bumbleroot Farm crew to learn about techniques for building soil quality on vegetable farms. We’ll tour the Tarping for Cover Crop Based No-Till trial plots happening on the farm, and discuss how no-till systems can be implemented on farms of various scales and production models, including organic and conventional systems

Program Description

Join UMaine Cooperative Extension and the Bumbleroot Farm crew to learn about techniques for building soil quality on vegetable farms.

We’ll tour the Tarping for Cover Crop Based No-Till trial plots happening on the farm, and discuss how no-till systems can be implemented on farms of various scales and production models, including organic and conventional systems. The New Hampshire Strafford and Rockingham County Conservation Districts will also be demonstrating implements for reducing tillage from their equipment rental program. These implements for building soil health include a no-till veg transplanter, Snell Family Farm’s Zone Tiller, UMaine Extension’s BCS walk-behind tractor implements, and more.

  • Key Components of Building Soil Health
  •  Cover Crop Based No-Till Tarping Project Demo
  •  Demonstration of Operation of the Zone Tiller (Snell’s) and the SRCCD No-Till Transplanter (Low residue)
  • 6:20- 6:45 BCS use, discussion of reduced tillage, and cover crop planting strategies.
CCA credit is available for participants:
1.5 Crop Management CEU and 0.5 Soil and Water Management.
