Farm Tractor Safety Course 2020 – Oxford County

Farm work can be dangerous, but a University of Maine Cooperative Extension tractor safety course will help reduce risks to Maine farmers and farmworkers. Individuals will receive practical training in the classroom, in the shop, and on tractors.

Before attending the class, youth under 18 must provide the following completed form:

Classes will be held Wednesday, April 29, and May 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 5:30-7:30, at the Oxford County Cooperative Extension Office (9 Olson Rd., South Paris) and at Roundabout Farm (452 North Hill Road, Buckfield).

Program Description

Cost: $20

Dates: Wednesdays, April 29, May 6, 13, 20 and 27

Participants will learn how to handle tractors and equipment safely, how to identify hazards, and how to minimize the chances of accidents. The course is open to all adults and youth interested (14 years and older), but priority will be given to youth ages 14 to 16. This course is required for 14 and 15-year-olds who plan to operate farm equipment for hire on farms other than their own.

A Federal Certificate of Training will be issued at the end of the course after successful completion of the written test and driving course and with attendance requirements met.
Course Manual: Tractor Safety Manual published by Pennsylvania State University (included in the course fee.)
