Join the University of Maine Cooperative Extension food preservation staff for a lively discussion and demonstration on how to preserve Maine foods throughout our growing season.

$5 suggested donation per class.

Registration is required – Participants will receive the Zoom information after registering for this event.

August 4 – Freezing Fruit

  • Demonstrate how to freeze raspberries with no added sugar
  • Explain the simplicity of freezer jam
  • Discuss uses for frozen fruit
  • Answer your questions

August 11 – Atmospheric Steam Canning

  • Demonstrate how to use a steam canner
  • Explain the research supporting the use of steam canners
  • Discuss the advantages of using steam canner
  • Answer your questions

August 18 – Freezing Tomatoes and Freezing Corn

  • Demonstrate freezing tomatoes and corn
  • Discuss uses for frozen vegetables
  • Answer your questions

August 25 – Canning Salsa and Tomatoes

  • Demonstrate how to can salsa
  • Explain the importance of following a tested recipe
  • Compare different methods for canning tomatoes
  • Answer your questions
