Preserving the Maine Harvest: July 2020 Series

Join University of Maine Cooperative Extension food preservation staff for a lively discussion and demonstration on how to preserve Maine foods throughout our growing season.

$5 suggested donation per class.

Registration is required – Participants will receive the Zoom information after registering for this event.

July 7 – Quick Pack Pickles

  • Discuss pickling ingredient “dos and don’ts”
  • Answer your questions

July 14 – Fermenting Pickles

  • Demonstrate how to make fermented Kosher Dill Pickles
  • Discuss fermented pickle “dos and don’ts”
  • Answer your questions

July 21 – Preserving Green Beans

  • Demonstrate freezing green beans
  • Discuss pressure canning as a method for preserving foods
  • Highlight the steps for pressure canning
  • Answer your questions

July 28 – Freezing Maine Seafood

  • Explain the recommended techniques for seafood
  • Demonstrate how to freeze lobster
  • Discuss the science of freezing 
  • Answer your questions
