Join the University of Maine Cooperative Extension food preservation staff for a lively discussion and demonstration on how to preserve Maine foods throughout our growing season.

$5 optional donation per class.

Registration is required – Participants will receive the Zoom information after registering for this event.

June 8 – Low-Sugar Jams and Jellies

  • Discuss using natural and alternative sweeteners in jam and jelly-making
  • Demonstrate making low-sugar jam
  • Answer your questions

July 27 – Fermenting Pickles

  • Discuss pickling ingredient “dos and don’ts”
  • Demonstrate fermenting pickles
  • Answer your questions

August 31 – Canning Salsa Safely

  • Demonstrate how to can salsa
  • Explain the importance of following a tested recipe  
  • Answer your questions

September 21 – Preserving Meat

  • Discuss food safety considerations of preserving meat
    Demonstrate how to dehydrate beef jerky
  • Answer your questions

October 19 – Preserving Winter Squash & Pumpkins

  • Discuss methods for preserving squash
  • Demonstrate how to can squash
  • Explain storage techniques
  • Answer your questions
