Conservation Education-Hunter Safety: Archery

Offered in partnership with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Tanglewood’s Conservation Camps provide an exciting approach to safety in a specially designed setting with a focus on ethical target sports practice. Camp is the ideal setting to learn how to move through the woods as quietly as a fox. Our hands-on instruction offers a unique opportunity to learn conservation education. Skills include wildlife tracking, map and compass, archery or firearms safety, and woods wisdom all taught in a safe and supported environment.

Program participants are in their own pod during the day, forming a tight-knit group of peers. All programs include canoe safety and paddling basics while also enjoying all the traditional camp activities Tanglewood is known for. Each successful participant earns their Maine Hunter Safety Certificate in one or two skill sets, with a focus on archery, honored in all 50 states, and good for life.

Game wardens and Search and Rescue Dogs are often special guests each week.

Maine residents who are first-time participants may be eligible for a one-time $150 scholarship funded by the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
