Welcome to Maine Military Adventure Camps at Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove!

Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove were not awarded funding to carry out these programs for the 2018 season and will not run these camps. We hope to apply again in the future to continue serving teens from military families. To see the list of camps to choose from please visit:  https://ag.purdue.edu/extension/adventurecamps/Pages/default.aspx

These programs are being offered to children of military families through special grant programs. It is the intent of the Department of Defense sponsored Adventure Camps to provide quality outdoor experiences for teens of Service Members in the active, reserve or guard components. Specific questions regarding eligibility should be made to the Tanglewood office at 207.789.5868 or extension.tanglewood4h@maine.edu.

Programs are designed to build self-esteem, trust, teamwork, friendships, skill building, and appreciation of nature through outdoor adventures. Camps are led by staff of UMaine 4-H Camp and Learning Centers and key outdoor education and adventure partners.

Camp Goals:

  • to promote leadership and team building among participants
  • to promote outdoor education and conservation
  • to encourage a connection to our natural resources and support healthy outdoor experiences

How will this camp advance the state/national Military Adventure Camp goals?

The Tanglewood & Blueberry Cove 4-H Camps will work in partnership with 4-H Military liaisons to meet the needs of youth who have deployed parents/guardian in active service, or who will deploy. Tanglewood & Blueberry Cove will support these youth through team leadership experiences and connection to others for support and encouragement.

What life skills will be targeted? How will these skills support military youth through deployment?

The 4-H Targeting Life Skills and 4-H Earth Connections programs are the focus of Tanglewood & Blueberry Cove’s environmental leadership and experiential programs. Emphasis is on leadership skills, building communication, listening skills, conflict resolution, and trust building.  These skills help young people to learn and grow within a safe and supportive environment.

What curriculum will be used to support or teach the development of the targeted life skills?

Tanglewood 4-H focuses its team building and life skills programs on the following:

  • 4-H Targeting Life Skills
  • S.M.A.R.T. Goals
  • 4-H Earth Connections
