The University of Maine’s 4-H Camp and Learning Centers at Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove’s\u00a0mission<\/strong> is to teach and inspire youth from Maine and beyond to be effective and caring citizens of the Earth through affordable ecology education and fun nature-based experiences.<\/p>\n

We embrace the goals of 4-H Earth Connections<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n

Youth, adults, and families seeing themselves as part of an interconnected world, committed to a sustainable future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

4-H is the youth education program of Cooperative Extension. 4-H is a high-quality youth development organization that empowers young people to reach their full potential through learning-by-doing.<\/p>\n

Our vision<\/strong> is to create a place where people learn to live responsibly and in balance with the Earth. It encourages reflection and respect, while inspiring change within ourselves and our communities.<\/p>\n

Positive human development, making friends, building skills for life and having fun are central to program experiences. We strive to provide an atmosphere where people build more positive skills and qualities that will help them through all life. To promote a community where this thrives we have guidelines of safety for self and others and respect for all life. These guidelines are introduced at the opening circle of each program in meaningful ways that help everyone understand and feel good about being contributing members of our camp community.<\/p>\n

Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove do not tolerate name calling, put-downs, fighting, violent behavior, possession or use of tobacco, alcohol or other non-prescription drugs and all other acts which violate principles of safety and respect.<\/p>\n

  • Commitment to embrace Maine’s 4-H youth philosophy and values<\/li>\n
  • Commitment to create and maintain a safe and physically accessible environment at our sites<\/li>\n
  • Commitment to high quality experiential education that encompasses the individual development needs and learning styles of participants<\/li>\n
  • Respect for the rights of others to hold, develop, and express ideas different from ones own<\/li>\n
  • Commitment to create an understanding of ecology and how the earth works<\/li>\n
  • Commitment to maintain a sound fiscal management system<\/li>\n
  • Commitment to kindness and mutual respect<\/li>\n
