Please contact your MGV Coordinators if you have any questions and\/or concerns. The situation will continually be assessed and updates will be provided to all active Master Gardener Volunteers and partner organizations.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers program provides participants with at least\u00a0<strong>40 hours of in-depth training in the art and science of horticulture<\/strong>. Trainees receive current, research-based information from UMaine Extension educators and industry experts. In return, trained Master Gardeners volunteer their time and expertise in many ways for community programs and activities.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Last Year:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>1030 Master Gardener Volunteers<\/strong>\u00a0(MGVs) gave nearly\u00a0<strong>39,000 hours<\/strong>\u00a0for educational and food security projects!<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>MGVs supported:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>79 community gardens<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>45 school gardens<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>53 demonstration gardens<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>34 programs involving 7,064 youth<\/strong> in horticulture\u00a0activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>MGVs distributed:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>213,770 pounds of food<\/strong> to <strong>130 food distribution agencies and countless neighbors in need<\/strong> as part of the Maine Harvest for Hunger program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Who Can Become a Master Gardener Volunteer?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Master Gardener Volunteers are people of all types who want to make a difference. They want to use their gardening skills to create positive change in their communities.
