Tractor Supply Co. Paper Clover Campaign

Paper Clovers

The Paper Clover Campaign at the Tractor Supply store in Calais will take place on October 7-18th!  Each spring and fall, Tractor Supply helps raise money for 4‑H programs through the sale of Paper Clovers in their stores. In the most recent campaign, over $6,000 was raised in the state of Maine to support scholarships for camp and leadership activities.

This year, because of the COVID crisis, TSC is requesting no physical presence from 4-H programs at their stores including outdoor spaces like parking lots.  Although we can’t be at the store in person, there are other ways you can help make the fundraiser a success.  Please ask your family and friends to visit the Calais store and participate in this fundraiser and share social media posts about it!

This fall, the top 10 states who show the greatest percentage increase in funds will earn a $2,500 bonus for their state! Please help us spread the word!

In-Person Programming Updates and Reminders

The University of Maine has approved the following changes to in-person programs for youth led by volunteers.
  • The total number of people has increased from 10 to 20.
  • Programs can occur indoors but not in people’s homes and there must be adequate space for 20 people.

Volunteers, please check the website for information on restarting in-person programming and club meetings.  You must fill out the program restart form and wait for approval from the 4-H Youth Development Professional, Brittany Foster.

Checklist for 4-H Club Volunteers

4-H Volunteer Background Checks

Our Maine 4-H program takes the safety of our program participants very seriously. As of October 1, 2018, all Maine 4-H volunteers are required to have a background check every three years. This includes currently enrolled volunteers. If a volunteer does not pass a background check or refuses to follow through with this policy, then the volunteer will no longer be able to serve as a UMaine Cooperative Extension Volunteer. This re-screening will be done at no cost to the volunteer.

Many of our Washington County 4-H Volunteers should have received an email from Jessy Brainerd regarding background checks.  You will need to complete the process if your initial background check was done over three years ago, 2017, and older.  Please check your email and follow the instructions provided.  It is important that you let Tara Wood know that you have submitted the form so that it may be processed.  There is an online tutorial if you need assistance or please contact the office.  This will need to be completed by December 31st.
