Washington County Extension Association recognizes volunteers at annual meeting
University of Maine Cooperative Extension hosted its annual meeting of the Washington County Extension Association (WCEA) on Wednesday, June 24 at UMaine Machias. The program featured highlights from the Conservation Career 4-H Club and a volunteer award ceremony.
Extension Staff shared program highlights from the past year, including 4-H clubs and activities, Eastern Maine ROOTS, virtual gardening programs and the great efforts of Master Gardener Volunteers.
During the WCEA annual meeting, new members Zach McClimon and Amanda Smith were recognized. Members and residents voted on a new slate of officers which includes Robin Pinto, President; Nicholas MacDonald, Vice-President; Amanda Smith, Secretary; and Lisa Hanscom, Treasurer.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of two community-focused awards: the University of Maine Pen Award and the Norman W. Duzen Community Service Award. Tanya Zivkovic received the University of Maine Pen award,presented to volunteers who make significant contributions in one program area of Extension. Zivkovic was honored for her volunteer work with 4-H.
Alison Enslin of Milbridge received the Norman W. Duzen Community Service Award. In his presentation, WCEA President Nicholas MacDonald said, “Alison Enslin, is a truly dynamic force of nature, dedicating her time and energy to countless organizations across the Milbridge area.” Alison volunteers for the Maine Seacoast Mission Food Pantry; Community Advisory Council for Women for Healthy Rural Living; and as an AARP tax aide. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Harrington Family Health Center, is actively involved with the Milbridge Historical Society, and consistently steps up to support regional nonprofits like Mano en Mano. Senator Marianne Moore was also on hand to congratulate Alison and present her with a special legislative sentiment.
