STEM Guides Downeast to Host “Family Code Night” Throughout Washington County
During the week of December 4, the Downeast STEM Hub will be hosting Family Code Night at multiple locations across Washington County. Family Code Night is a free, fun family event at which children grades 4-8 and their parents do their first hour of coding, together. Featured on the White House website and the front page of the New York Times, this family-engaging evening event is being offered at schools, libraries and community buildings around the country, all in support of the national “Computer Science for All” movement. The event will feature an introduction to coding using Scratch and will introduce students and parents to the limitless possibilities and potential that comes with a career in the computer science field. These events are an hour to an hour and a half long and fully facilitated by the host at each location. To learn more, visit Family Code Night.

- EdGE — December 7, 5:30 pm – 7 pm (EdGE building in Cherryfield)
- Porter Memorial Library — December 6, 3:30-4:30pm (Machias)
- Princeton Library — December 2, 10 am – 11 am
- Washington Academy — December 6, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm (East Machias)
- Milbridge Public Library — December 9, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
- Peabody Memorial Library — December 7, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Jonesport)
- Edmunds Elementary School — December 7, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
STEM Guides Downeast connects STEM resources and activities to youth age 10-18 and their families in Washington County. STEM Guides Downeast partners include Axiom Education & Training Center, University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H, and Maine Math & Science Alliance and is funded by the National Science Foundation.
