SUMMARY:4-H Passport Around the World SPIN Club

DESCRIPTION:We have an exciting opportunity for kids in 4th through 8th grade to join a new virtual 4-H club – the 4-H Citizen Scientists!  In this club you’ll practice citizen science in your own backyard\, and observe and report on the nature around you while making connections with fellow citizen scientists in your community and around the state!  The club will meet 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm Wednesdays starting May 5\, 2021 through June 9\, 2021.  This club is limited to 15 members\, and online registration is required. DESCRIPTION:4-H June Jamboree\n4-H June Jamboree is an annual event hosted by Hancock County 4-H. It is open to ALL 4-H members\, friends\, and family in Hancock and neighboring counties. \nPhoto taken during June Jamboree 2019\nJune Jamboree features a weekend of hands-on workshops covering topics such as: science\, art\, crafts\, physical activity\, nutrition\, animals\, demonstrations\, and animal project clinics. Fun for the entire family\, all ages welcome! \nThis event is typically held at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds during the first weekend in June\, with overnight camping available. In 2021\, we’re celebrating June Jamboree a little differently! 4-H Jamboree 2021 will be spread out from June 5th through July 11th. Similar to last year\, activities/kits will be delivered to your home for youth to participate in activities at home. However\, we will also be offering in-person workshops at different locations throughout the county. Detailed information included! \nGeocaching across the County | Technology\, Environment | Learn the basics of geocaching — find all of the 4-H caches in Hancock County. \nIn-Person Workshops\nAll workshops\, unless otherwise noted\, are limited to ten youth participants.\n \nTomato in a Bucket | Science\, Environment | June 5th\, 2:30 – 4:00 pm; University of Maine Cooperative Extension Hancock County Office in Ellsworth\, Maine \nParticipants will learn how to transplant a tomato seedling and how to grow and care for it in a bucket. Youth will leave with a tomato plant\, bucket\, and small Ziploc of fertilizer.  Taught by Master Gardener and 4-H Community Education Assistant\, Zabet NeuCollins. \nIntro to Orienteering | Environment\, Technology | June 12th\, 2:30 – 4:00 pm; Hatch Cove Preserve in Castine\, Maine \nOrienteering is a sport that involves navigating through unfamiliar terrain with a compass and a detailed map. In this workshop\, we’ll discuss the basics\, then set off on a “treasure hunt” to find a series of marked checkpoints. Maps will be provided\, and compasses will be available to borrow if needed. Taught by Tim Parson. Ages 10+. \nPaint with Felt | Environment\, Art | June 26th\, 9:30 – 11 am; ArtWaves in Town Hill\, Maine \nParticipants will learn how to paint a landscape with felt and will leave with their own felt painting. Taught by Liz Cutler\, founder of ArtWaves. \nBuild a Wind Vane | Environment\, Science\, Engineering | July 10th\, 11 – 12:30 pm; Lone Spruce Farm in Dedham\, Maine \nLearn how to make your own wind vane and track the direction the wind is blowing! Taught by Kristin Beauchamp\, owner of Lone Spruce Farm and a volunteer for The National Weather Service. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and have a self-guided picnic on the premises with their family afterward. \nOther Summer Opportunities\nMaine 4-H will offer virtual experiential learning workshops and clubs to youth ages 5-18 throughout June\, July\, and August 2021. In this workshop\, we’ll discuss the basics\, then set off on a “treasure hunt” to find a series of marked checkpoints. Maps will be provided\, and compasses will be available to borrow if needed. Ages 10+. \nPaint with Felt | Environment\, Art | June 26th\, 9:30 – 11 am; ArtWaves in Town Hill\, Maine \nParticipants will learn how to paint a landscape with felt and will leave with their own felt painting. Taught by Liz Cutler\, founder of ArtWaves. \nBuild a Wind Vane | Environment\, Science\, Engineering | July 10th\, 11 – 12:30 pm; Lone Spruce Farm in Dedham\, Maine \nLearn how to make your own wind vane and track the direction the wind is blowing! Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and have a self-guided picnic on the premises with their family afterward. \nOther Summer Opportunities\nMaine 4-H will offer virtual experiential learning workshops and clubs to youth ages 5-18 throughout June\, July\, and August 2021. It can be fun to experience your backyard from a new perspective! DESCRIPTION:4-H June Jamboree\n4-H June Jamboree is an annual event hosted by Hancock County 4-H. It is open to ALL 4-H members\, friends\, and family in Hancock and neighboring counties. \nPhoto taken during June Jamboree 2019\nJune Jamboree features a weekend of hands-on workshops covering topics such as: science\, art\, crafts\, physical activity\, nutrition\, animals\, demonstrations\, and animal project clinics. Fun for the entire family\, all ages welcome! \nThis event is typically held at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds during the first weekend in June\, with overnight camping available. In 2021\, we’re celebrating June Jamboree a little differently! 4-H Jamboree 2021 will be spread out from June 5th through July 11th. Similar to last year\, activities/kits will be delivered to your home for youth to participate in activities at home. However\, we will also be offering in-person workshops at different locations throughout the county.
