SUMMARY:Educational Update for the Agricultural Industry via Zoom – October 13\, 2021
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 13\, 2021\n7 pm – 8 pm \nA one-hour Zoom meeting will be held to offer updates specific to the agricultural industry. There will be two presentations\, “Potato Virus Y (PVY) and the 2020 Growing Season PVY Research” will be presented by UMaine Professor Greg Porter\, and “Pesticides and Off-Target Movement” will be presented by UMaine Extension crops specialist Steve Johnson. \nOne MBPC recertification credit has been approved for this meeting. In order to receive the MBPC credit\, a 15-question test will have to be passed with a score of at least 80%. Those signed up by noon of the day of the event will receive the link for the test before the presentation. Late signups would get it after the event. Only those that signed up for the presentation will be eligible for the MBPC credit. \nPreregistration is required. The Zoom link and passcode will be sent to participants prior to the training. \nREGISTER HERE!

DESCRIPTION:The Year in Nature SPIN (Special Interest) Club is open to youth in York and Washington Counties\, ages 5-18\, who are interested in being part of a community of nature lovers! This group will meet throughout the year to observe\, explore\, draw\, and listen to the natural world . The club is led by 4-H Professionals Erin McDonald and Brittany Foster. \nMeetings\nThis is a hybrid club that will meet both virtually and in person. Virtual meetings will be held via Zoom where youth from York County and Washington County can discuss and share their experiences in nature. We will work on phenology wheels\, nature journaling\, and anything else our youth participants are interested in! In person meetings will take place in various nature preserves in both York and Washington Counties. You do not need to attend all meetings in order to participate. \nParticipant Responsibilities and Expectations\n\nBe respectful of each other and the natural places we visit.\nParticipate fully in virtual and in-person activities\, including a group nature journal.\nBe prepared for cold/muddy/rainy/hot weather during in person meetings.\nParticipate in a community service project such as trash pickup and trail maintenance.\n\nDoes this sound like a club for you? DESCRIPTION:This information session is for anyone interested in learning more about\, and becoming involved in\, the UMaine Extension 4-H WHEP program. WHEP is a national program aimed at educating young people about wildlife and fisheries habitat management. All ages are welcome\, but the program is best suited for 8- to 18-year-olds. DESCRIPTION:November 17\, 2021\n9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\n\nMinimum number of participants: 10\nDeadline to register: November 12\, 2021 \n \nUMaine Cooperative Extension course instructors include:\n*Louis Bassano\, Professor Emeritus of Cooperative Extension\n*Jim McConnon\, Business and Economics Specialist and Professor of Economics\n*Beth Calder\, Professor of Food Science\n \nOnline using Zoom\n \nThe University of Maine Cooperative Extension will be offering its popular half-day workshop\, Recipe to Market\, which is a multi-disciplinary workshop that covers the business and food aspects of starting a food business in Maine.  This workshop is intended for entrepreneurs and/or farmers interested in starting a home-based\, specialty food business.  This program does not cover herbal supplements or commercial processing (including beverage or juice manufacturing).  Products that will be discussed\, include but are not limited to\, canned shelf stable products (jams/jellies/preserves\, baked goods\, condiments\, salsas\, sauces\, dessert sauces)\, dry mixes\, and candies/confections.  Topics include the business basics\, an overview of the product development process\, licensing/regulations\, and food safety. \n  \nOnce you have registered\, you will receive an email with a Zoom link a few days before the class. \nREGISTER HERE!
