SUMMARY:Recipe to Market Program
DESCRIPTION:The University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s popular three-hour workshop\, Recipe to Market\, covers the basics to take a favorite recipe or idea and start a food business. This workshop will introduce participants to important topics\, such as an overview of the specialty foods industry\, business basics to consider\, and an overview of the product development process\, licensing and regulations\, and food safety concerns. This workshop is intended for individuals\, entrepreneurs\, and/or farmers interested in starting a home-based\, specialty food business. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*This program does not cover herbal supplements\, commercial processing (including dairy\, meat\, beverage\, or juice manufacturing) or pet treats/foods. \nRecipe to Market course instructors include: \n\nLouis Bassano\, Professor Emeritus of Cooperative Extension\nBeth Calder\, Extension Food Science Specialist\, Professor of Food Science\, and Director of the UMaine Food Testing Services\nJim McConnon\, Professor Emeritus\, School of Economics and Cooperative Extension\, University of Maine\n\nMinimum number of participants: 10* \nRegistration deadline is January 31\, 2025. \nRegister here! \n*We reserve the right to reschedule this program if the minimum number of participants has not been met. \nOnce registered\, you will receive an email with a Zoom link a week before the class and an agenda and instructor handouts. \nPlease Note: \nRegistered participants will benefit from the flexibility of accessing the recording at a later date if they are unable to attend the in-person event. SUMMARY:Introduction to Beekeeping
DESCRIPTION:Led by master beekeeper Andrew Dewey\, the eight-week course will cover a range of topics essential to beekeeping\, including the honeybee colony\, hive construction\, seasonal management\, pests and diseases\, and honey production. Participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical skills to start their own beekeeping journey. \nThe course fee is $75 per person\, or per couple if sharing materials. Participants will receive a free copy of the book “Simple Smart Beekeeping” by Kirsten S. Traynor\, Ph.D. and Michael J. Traynor. \n

DESCRIPTION:Thinking about becoming a 4-H volunteer? We are looking for people to help youth find their spark and thrive! We offer lots of ways to be involved depending on your time and interests. Join us for two one-hour virtual sessions to help you with your decision. By the end of the two-part series\, you will have completed four short e-Learning modules to introduce you to the 4-H program\, participate in an experiential learning activity\, learn about the key aspects of positive youth development\, and be introduced to ages and stages of youth. This core training will wrap up with an outline of next steps and an introduction to your county staff contact so you can begin the application process if you choose. SUMMARY:4-H Science Fridays: Ecobots
DESCRIPTION:Youth will ensemble their own Eco-Bot\, learn how it functions\, and use the robot to perform a simulated environmental cleanup project. \nEngage in science\, technology\, engineering\, art and math (STEAM) topics and skills with 4-H staff and volunteers throughout the 2025 year! Targeted for youth ages 9-15\, this program allows youth to explore a variety of STEAM projects through hands-on activities that build curiosity\, confidence and a growth mindset. \nEach month 4-H Science Fridays will have a specific theme. We will meet for an hour and a half\, 3-4:30pm\, at the University of Maine at Machias. The program is free\, registration is encouraged\, as the maximum number of participants is 20. \nRegister here!
