{"id":11632,"date":"2022-04-12T14:22:09","date_gmt":"2022-04-12T18:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/washington\/?page_id=11632"},"modified":"2022-04-12T14:22:09","modified_gmt":"2022-04-12T18:22:09","slug":"wcea-meeting-minutes-march-2022","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/washington\/wcea-meeting-minutes-march-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"WCEA Meeting Minutes- March 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WCEA meeting minutes 3\/15\/2022<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><b>Present<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: Eric Jones, Kyle Winslow,, Jen Lobley, Ed Latham, Brittany Foster, Bob Simpson, Donna Coffin, Leslie Monroy<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Program Highlight- One Tomato &#8211; Donna Coffin (<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">donna.coffin@maine.edu<\/span><b>)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Goals to increase food gardens, increase fresh food consumption and increase awareness of UMaine Cooperative Extension as garden resource<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Inspired by victory gardens from 1943<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Canada brought it back in 2009 with cherry tomatoes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Started in Piscataquis in 2014 with cherry tomatoes and harvest survey in fall<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">About $0.30 per plant from greenhouse purchase<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over 3,000 given out since 2014<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$0.50 seedling yielding $9.50 per plant in last three years on average<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Esterina is very disease resistant in data from surveys<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Impact includes over $15,000 in value of harvests, around 300 new gardeners in 5 years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1st week in June for plant distribution<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Group has interest but need future discussion. Maybe check out any greenhouses if anyone knows of any?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Approval of February meeting minutes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; moved by Bob, seconded by Ed , unanimously approved<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Treasurer&#8217;s Report<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Review of Balance sheet and Operating Statement<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Approval &#8211; motioned by Kyle , seconded by Eric, unanimously approved<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Staff Reports<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Awesome work from Marjorie Peronto in handwriting all those letters to master gardeners!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public Speaking event went great!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>UMM move:&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jen met with transition team last week<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We could be in there with keys in hand by July 1st!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ramp to historic door is a complication that is being worked on. One option is to modify the hanging door by the service entrance as the ramp entrance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do we want a second ramp on the back side going out to the garden?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Share blueprints to group next meeting to get spacial feel for things?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bathroom will be made ADA compliant<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our signage needs coincides with new marketing moves on campus this summer\/fall<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Basement is nice and dry so we may have good storage there, but some bones and frozen bodies may need new homes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Need to let Betsy know of move soon<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Greenhouse may need more planning and work to get up and running<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eric will share move info with UMM faculty during meeting they have on Wednesday<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jen will follow up with Betsy. Not sure what other public outreach should be done and when. Hopefully more guidance next meeting.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Committee member recruitment<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moved to a meeting or two from now.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In meantime think of any specific needs we might have like people interested in gardening for greenhouse for example.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In April we can review list and May we can invite new members with June the onboarding.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Budget<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Looked at proposed 2023 budget with discussion.
