Now\u2019s the time to show off your photography talents. This contest is open to all Washington&nbsp;County, Maine 4-H Members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><strong>Photos MUST be from the current 4-H year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong>There will be six (6) photo categories:<\/strong> (You may enter one photo in each category and\/or only one (1) storyboard. Possible total of seven entries per person.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4-H Activity<\/li>\n<li>Action&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Animals<\/li>\n<li>Architecture<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\">Nature\/Landscape<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\">People<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Age Divisions<\/span>:<\/strong> (by December 31, 2024):<\/p>\n<p>9-13 years old; 14-19 years old; and&nbsp;<span class=\"s1\">Cloverbuds <\/span>(5-8 years old) are encouraged to participate. They will receive&nbsp;comments from the judges but will not be judged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Awards<\/span>:&nbsp;<\/strong>Blue Ribbon, each category\/each age division (with the exception of Cloverbuds)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong>Top Blue:<\/strong> $10<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><strong>Second Blue:<\/strong> $5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">All other Blue Ribbon Scorers will receive a blue ribbon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Red Ribbon, each category\/each age division. All red ribbon scorers will receive red ribbons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Judge\u2019s Choice Award-<span class=\"s2\"> Special Rosettes<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All other entries will receive a participation ribbon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All Cloverbuds will receive a participation ribbon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Deadline to submit photos to the Extension Office: Friday, July 25, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">To encourage 4-H members to use photography as a meaningful communication tool<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">To develop life skills in communication and expressive arts<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">To provide photography showcase opportunity for 4-H members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5\">Definitions and Rules<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Single Photo:<\/strong> 4-H Club\/County Activity (anything related to 4-H); Action; Animals; Architecture\/Object of Interest; Nature\/Landscape, People,&nbsp; (6 categories)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Storyboard:<\/strong> Same as above, but tell a story with your photos. &nbsp;You must use at least 4, but not more than 6 photos with&nbsp;your storyboard. Storyboard must be labeled on the back. No captions or titles on the front.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Digital or film photos will be accepted. With the increasing popularity of Digital Cameras, the 4-H Photo Contest will accept digital photos. Black\/white or color photos will be accepted. Digital photos should not be post-processed (i.e. single-image composition).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All entries must be submitted from an active Washington&nbsp;County, Maine 4-H Member. Photos&nbsp;must be from the current 4-H year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Enter only (1) photo per category in the individual photo class, and\/or only (1) storyboard. A possible total of (6) entries per person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A separate<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/washington\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2025\/05\/2025-Entry-Label-Washington-County-4-H-Photo-Contest.pdf\">2025 Entry Label Washington County 4-H Photo Contest<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>(PDF) must be submitted with each submission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Mounting your photo:&nbsp;<\/strong>All photos must be mounted on an 8 x 10 or larger foam board or cardboard for&nbsp;stability. All photo stories should be mounted on one (1) large foam board or cardboard&nbsp;to neatly fit all photos which will tell a 4-H story. Photos should not be submitted&nbsp;framed or matted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Judging:<\/strong> Judges will be selected from qualified individuals in the field of&nbsp;photography, graphic art or fine arts. Photography will be judged based on the&nbsp;Criteria\/Standards information. The decision of the judges is final and not&nbsp;subject to change.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\"><strong>Criteria\/Standards<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Definition:<\/strong> Adjustment of the distance setting on a lens to appropriately&nbsp;define the subject.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Standard:<\/strong> The focus is appropriate to the theme \u201c4-H \u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Lighting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Definition:<\/strong> The illumination of a subject<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Standard:<\/strong> Use of light to produce the desired mood or effect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>PRINT QUALITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Definition:<\/strong> The photo exhibits quality consistent with the display.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Standard:<\/strong> The absence of blemishes, scratches, overly enlarged (graininess),&nbsp;and pixilation. This also includes the quality of mounting of the photo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Subject<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Definition:<\/strong> The photo uses the subject to deliver a message in a creative&nbsp;way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Standard:<\/strong> The photo clearly communicates the subject and fits the theme \u201c4-H\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Composition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Definition:<\/strong> Placement of the subject in the photo demonstrating artistic&nbsp;ability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Standard:<\/strong> A pleasing balance exists among all components of the composition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Definition:<\/strong> The photo clearly captures the attention of the viewer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Standard:<\/strong> The composition conveys a strong message.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Uniqueness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Definition:<\/strong> Use of originality, camera angle, lighting, character studies,&nbsp;and\/or creativity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Standard:<\/strong> The photographer exhibits creativity through the photo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2025 Washington County 4-H Photo Contest Pull out those cameras and start snapping away!
