 Paige is planning on taking a gap year. She will be attending the Sea Semester Atlantic Odyssey Program. This is an alternative experiential educational sailing expedition. After returning from the sailing expedition, she will continue to work on her family’s organic farm, assuming more management responsibilities and working to make local organic food more available and accessible for the local community.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Paige says,<\/div>\n
“The most valuable thing I’ve learned in 4 H is the importance of community.<\/div>\n
My favorite moment in 4 H was harvesting the fresh vegetables we grew in the school garden, washing and packing them. I loved creating the small, fun colorful labels for each produce and distributing them to the local food pantry!<\/div>\n
Other people should join 4-H to work as a team to reach the same goal, and to uphold the the four H’s. Head, hands, health, and heart for our community, country, and our world. 4-H expands on leadership and public speaking skills as well.”<\/div>\n

Inez will be attending the Earthwalk School of Herbal Traditions and continuing to learn the art of cheesemaking from her mother.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Inez had this to say about her 4-H experience,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“The most important thing I learned during my 4-H experience is the impact that a community can have. It was amazing to see what my community was able to accomplish and learn when we worked together.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

One of my favorite memories in my 4-H experience was when we started working with kids in our garden. It was so motivating and inspiring to see their excitement and willingness to learn and engage.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Forrest will attend the University of Maine at Orono to study Athletic Training.  Forrest is the recipient of the Frederick E. Hutchinson and Wayne S. Rich 4-H Scholarship.  Congrats Forrest!<\/strong><\/div>\n
Forrest writes,<\/div>\n
“Throughout my time with 4-H, I learned how important it was to network and communicate with people. The smallest encounter could become your biggest connection!<\/div>\n
Although it is hard to pick my favorite 4-H moment, it was definitely the CWF trip to Washington DC because I learned so much about our country but most importantly I had the opportunity to expand my horizons and meet amazing people from all over the country and share their experiences.<\/div>\n
4-H is an amazing program that I recommend everyone try because it can help anyone shape their interests and develop themselves as a person, and it is an amazing opportunity to build an impressive resume for work and school!”<\/div>\n

Sam, plans to attend Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia this fall to study biomedical sciences with the career goal of becoming an optometrist.  Sam is the recipient of the Jeremy Strater 4-H Scholarship!  Congrats Sam!<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“The most important thing I learned during my time in 4-H was how to become a better leader.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
One of my favorite moments in 4-H was adding up the total amount of food that we donated to the food pantry at the end of the year. It was great to finally get to see the fruits of our labor and see what we accomplished. It was a very rewarding experience.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I think others should join 4-H so they too can also experience the feeling of getting to help others and those in need.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Backyard Birding Kit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We are excited to offer our 4-H Camp in a Box to Washington County youth for the 2021 Summer Season. 4-H Camp in a Box are hands on learning kits that can be checked out for one week at a time with your choice of a theme.  Themes include: Family Fishing, Backyard Birding, All About Water, and Tracking Wildlife,<\/p>\n

Some of the fairs in Maine are on track for hosting 4-H shows in 2021!  We encourage you to check fair websites to get more information about what is being offered.  Please submit an animal approval form<\/a> by June 30th, <\/strong>if you plan to show an animal.  Please send to Tara Wood, 28 Center Street, Machias, ME 04654 or email to tara.a.wood@maine.edu.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Join Us in Celebrating 4-H at the Washington County Extension Association Annual Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Washington County Extension Association will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, June 22, beginning at 6:00 p.m. virtually using ZOOM technology.  Participants must register on the WCEA Annual Meeting Registration link<\/a> by June 17th to receive the connection link and password and be signed up for the door prize drawing of a Helen’s Restaurant gift card.<\/p>\n

Forrest P.<\/strong> will be recognized as the recipient of the Frederick E. Hutchinson and Wayne S. Rich 4-H Scholarship. Samuel P.<\/strong> will be acknowledged as the recipient of the Jeremy Strater 4-H Scholarship!  4-H Camp and Learning Center at Greenland Point <\/strong>will give a presentation about their programs, facilities and upcoming camp season.  The evening will also feature a video highlighting some of 2020 4-H programming.<\/p>\n

Joe Piscadlo<\/strong> will receive the Norman W. Duzen Community Service Award for his volunteer efforts with the Lubec Community Outreach Center Food Pantry.  This award is presented annually to individuals who have contributed as a volunteer to the lives of Washington County citizens. The award\u2019s namesake, Norman Duzen, was a dedicated civic and religious leader for over fifty years and had a great love for the people of Down East Maine.<\/p>\n
