The Maine 4-H Youth Council officially inducted representatives from around the state including one from Washington County!  Forrest P. will each serve on the Youth Council for a term of two years.  <\/div>\n

Maine 4-H Youth Council members serve to represent their county 4-H program to the entire state of Maine as well as help plan and implement various initiatives that will impact all 4-H members.  Congratulations Forrest!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/a>UMaine President Tours Washington County<\/strong><\/div>\n

UMaine President Ferrini-Mundy  toured some of the Extension programs in Washington County at the end of July. The tour started at our Greenland Point 4-H Camp and Learning Center. She then visited the 4-H Tech Changemaker garden at Washington Academy where she had a lesson in harvesting garlic. 4-H members Ayla and Paige gave her a tour of the garden and talked about the project. Her final stop of the day took her to Blueberry Hill Experimental Station. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/a>4-H at the Washington County Fair<\/b><\/div>\n

Thanks to all the 4-H friends and family who stopped by to say hello at the Washington County Fair in Pembroke held at the end of August. We had lots of new people sign up to learn more about 4-H and we distributed over 30 Take Home Garden Kits. Each kit included a container, soil and seeds as well as instructions and a “design your own seed packet” activity. We look forward to seeing photo submissions from families in a few weeks and hearing about how your seed nurturing adventures! Stay tuned to hear how you can help bring more 4-H to the fair next year!<\/p>\n

<\/a>4-H Re-enrollment 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another 4-H year will begin soon! Re-enrollment packets will be mailed at the beginning of October. Please be sure to follow the instructions. Reminder: There will be a $1 Accident Insurance Fee per member and leader, $2 for horse members and leaders. Clubs may vote to use money from their treasury or to individually contribute the fees. This applies to new and returning members and leaders. Note- members pay the fee only once regardless of how many clubs they are in. Please submit fees with your enrollment forms.  We would like to have your re-enrollment paperwork returned by Wednesday, November 24th<\/strong>. The absolute final deadline is Thursday, December 30th. No exceptions will be allowed after that date.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Requirement for Clubs: Treasurer Report<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 4-H year officially ends on September 30th<\/sup>. Please, finalize your club treasurer\u2019s report and send or bring it to the office. Reports will be reviewed and returned with feedback.  Thank you for complying with this mandate from the University of Maine.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/a>Project Records<\/strong><\/p>\n

4-H members in Washington County are encouraged to complete a project record for all projects in which they have participated during the 2021 4-H year. Despite another uncommon and challenging 4-H year, it is important to reflect on your experiences and set goals for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n

Project Records are due in the Machias office by Friday, October 15.  <\/b>Project records can be found on the Maine 4-H Project Records website.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/a>Volunteer Check Ins<\/strong><\/p>\n

Volunteers, please make sure to schedule an end of year check in with Brittany.  Sign up information and more details can be found in an email sent on August 9.<\/p>\n

  1. K-12 Planetarium Field Trips at the Versant Power Astronomy Center

  3. The Art of Math<\/strong>: Maine 4-H STEM Toolkit of the Month<\/strong>
    \nEach month we will be highlighting a different 4-H STEM Toolkit available from UMaine Cooperative Extension 4-H Program!    The Art of Math<\/a> activities include sessions on Patterns and the Fibonacci Sequence, Symmetry, Shapes, Geometry, and end with a building challenge! This kit can be used with upper elementary aged youth (4th – 6th or so).
