We are looking forward to 2023 and hope you are too! Here are a few of the fun events and some new things to get excited about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Public Speaking<\/strong> \u2013 A 4-H Public Speaking Workshop is scheduled on January 28 at Edmunds Consolidated School.&nbsp; Come find out more about public speaking!&nbsp; An in-person Washington County 4-H Public Speaking Tournament has been scheduled for March 4 at the University of Maine at Machias.&nbsp; The Maine 4-H State Public Speaking Tournament is scheduled for April 8 in Orono!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Photo Contest<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Start snapping photos now to submit later this year!<\/li>\n<li><strong>National 4-H Trips<\/strong> \u2013 such as Citizen Washington Focus are open to teens in Washington County and are a great opportunity to travel and learn by doing in the 4-H way.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SPIN Clubs<\/strong>\u2013 We are always looking for volunteers to conduct these short term, special interest clubs.&nbsp; Please contact the office to see how you can become involved!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Project Records<\/strong>\u2013 Start your project record now!&nbsp; Project records can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/volunteers\/project-records\/\">Maine 4-H Project Record<\/a>&nbsp;website.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Greenland Point 4-H Camp and Learning Center<\/strong>&#8211; Our office offers camp scholarships to enrolled 4-H members in Washington County!<\/li>\n<li>AND SO MUCH MORE!!!! A performer? A writer? Then consider the&nbsp;<strong>4-H Equity Challenge.&nbsp;<\/strong>The challenge&nbsp;is for youth ages 5-19 to create a digital photograph, a performance, a presentation, or a writing piece that tells why every Maine youth belongs in a welcoming and inclusive environment. There are prizes based on age. This challenge is open to any 4-H\u2019er or partner organization in Maine.There are helpful&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/youth\/equity-challenge\/\">guides and a rubric<\/a> to help you understand what judges will look for in an entry. Each week will have a new hands-on engineering challenge to work on while making connections with fellow 4-H engineers around the state! UMaine Extension 4-H staff will lead the challenges.The club is free; limited to 20 participants. Youth must qualify for this event by achieving&nbsp;a score of 78 or higher at their county or regional tournament. Check with your county 4-H staff to find out when your county tournament will be held.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Public Speaking In-Person Workshop<br \/>\n<\/strong>The <strong>Maine 4-H Communication Science Team<\/strong>&nbsp;invites all enrolled 4-H members to an in-person workshop on January 21st from 2 &#8211; 4 pm.&nbsp; The meeting will be held&nbsp;<strong>at the Penobscot County Extension Office<\/strong> in Bangor.&nbsp; Participants will learn how to prepare for county\/regional public speaking contests for both Demonstrations and Illustrated Talks.&nbsp; Please contact&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:sheila.norman@maine.edu\">norman@maine.edu<\/a>&nbsp;for more information or to register.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2023 4-H Volunteer Training Opportunities<br \/>\n<\/strong>As we get ready for the new 4-H year, we are looking forward to offering a variety of learning experiences (both in person and virtual) for our 4-H volunteers.
