AmeriCorps member Rowen Luuring will deliver the keynote address at the Eastern Maine Regional Opportunities for Ocean, Timber and Soil (ROOTS) Conference on March 22 at the University of Maine at Machias. <\/p>\n

Luuring\u2019s presentation, entitled Our Role in the Interdependence of All Living Things, will kick off the daylong event featuring industry leaders in agriculture, food, forestry management, fisheries, and aquaculture. A 21-year-old local to Washington County, Luuring revolves her work around her long-standing passions \u2013 caring for the community, its natural spaces, and its young people. Through the AmeriCorps program, Luuring currently works at Washington Academy, teaching sustainable agriculture and co-managing the school\u2019s garden. Looking forward, she hopes to attend College of the Atlantic in the fall of 2026 to pursue a degree in Human Ecology and bring her knowledge and experience back to benefit the Downeast community. <\/p>\n

“I’m looking forward to a day full of reflective connections, spearheaded by local folks invested in many different spaces of agriculture, forestry and aquaculture,\u201d said Luuring. \u201cMy presentation will focus on youth in agriculture, highlighting the space currently being made for the next wave of farmers, growers, and conservationists, as well as the changes we could all be implementing for our collective futures between land, water and people.”<\/p>\n

The Eastern Maine ROOTS Conference is hosted by University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the Washington County Food Council. Registration is required.
