The new format will be as follows. At the beginning of the month, we will send out important dates, deadlines, and news from the state 4-H office in an email, on our website, and Facebook page. We will post event reports on our website and Facebook page shortly after they happen.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage you to like our Facebook page- Washington County Maine 4-H.<\/p>\n<p>We hope this will be a more efficient way to send out news.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"remind\"><\/a>Remind Texts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In January, we will start using text messages to communicate important information and reminders with our 4-H program. It is a website called Remind. If you would like to receive texts, but have not given us your cell phone, please send your number to Tara Wood, <a href=\"mailto:tara.a.wood@maine.edu\">tara.a.wood@maine.edu<\/a>. If you prefer not to receive texts, please notify Tara at 207.255.3345.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"reenroll\"><\/a>Re-enrollment Deadline&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 County deadline has already passed! Last notice!&nbsp; ALL paperwork must be turned in to the Extension Office by Friday, December 28. There will be no exceptions. If you do not re-enroll, you will not be eligible to participate in 4-H this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"hour\"><\/a>Hour of Code<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>4-H is excited to host Hour of Code events in Machias, East Machias, Lubec and Machiasport. Youth and a parent\/guardian spent an hour with some of our 4-H Tech Changemaker teens to learn coding basics. The 4-H Tech Changemakers are working to revitalize the school garden at Washington Academy. This month, team members facilitated two meetings with teachers from W.A. and staff from Healthy Acadia and UMaine Cooperative Extension to do some visioning, create a time line and develop action steps! Two teen ambassadors and two adults are needed in every county participating. The DAs will host 6-10 learning sessions in their county between April 2019 and June 2020. DAs and adult volunteers will need to be able to travel to Columbus, Ohio, for a training session in February 2019 as well as participate in statewide online and in person trainings throughout the year. In 2018, MSSF awarded over $1 million in scholarships and awards. Other scholarships may be announced in the coming weeks.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>The Maine State Science Fair is open, without cost, to all Maine high school students who complete their own research or engineering project individually or in teams of 2-3. The purpose of MSSF is to present, learn, and discuss science with peers and STEM professionals from across Maine. Projects are invited from across <strong>all STEM disciplines<\/strong>: life sciences, agriculture, mathematics, computer sciences, psychology, energy, physics, marine science, environmental sciences, ecology, chemistry. Since legislators like to see 4-H members from their districts, 4-Hers (age 13 or older) are encouraged to serve as Honorary&nbsp;Pages. The Maine 4-H program has up to 30 slots for Honorary Pages.<\/p>\n<p>What does a page do? Legislators are constantly communicating and making decisions while in session and pages make that communication possible. Pages&nbsp;hand out information packets&nbsp;or place the paper information on their desks. Pages will also run communication and documents directly from legislator to legislator.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in serving as a page, please contact&nbsp;&nbsp;Diana at 207-622-7546 or diana.hartley@maine.edu.<\/p>\n<p>NEW: Expanded Page Day: Explore American Civics even more in Augusta!<br \/>\nAfternoon tour and activities with the newly opened First Amendment Museum. After lunch we invite participants of Page Day to explore this new museum experience located in the Gannett House, next door to the Blaine House, on State Street, in Augusta. From 1:30-2:30pm on January 29 the First Amendment Museum will showcase displays as well as have interactive experiences to explore the &#8220;Five Freedoms&#8221; guaranteed by the First Amendment. There may be limited space for this tour, please indicate when you RSVP for Page Day whether you and your chaperone plan to join.<\/p>\n<p>We would love to pages from all over the state represented.
