{"id":7509,"date":"2019-10-22T15:20:29","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T19:20:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/washington\/?p=7509"},"modified":"2019-10-22T15:36:37","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T19:36:37","slug":"4-h-focuses-on-photo-contest-in-washington-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/washington\/2019\/10\/22\/4-h-focuses-on-photo-contest-in-washington-county\/","title":{"rendered":"4-H Focuses on Photo Contest\u00a0in Washington County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Washington County, Maine- If a photo is worth a thousand words, then 4-H members spoke volumes this year during the annual Washington County 4-H Photo Contest sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Washington County 4-H Photo Contest encourages 4-H members to use photography as a meaningful communication tool and develop life skills in expressive arts.&nbsp; &nbsp;4-H members, ages 5 to 19, were allowed to submit up to six entries in their age division.&nbsp; The categories included nature\/landscape, people, animals, architecture, 4-H activity and storyboard. Judges scored submissions on focus, lighting, print quality, subject, composition, impact and uniqueness.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The top blue ribbons awarded this year were:<br \/>\n<strong>Senior Division (ages 14-19)&nbsp;<\/strong><br \/>\nNature\/landscape, people, animals, and architecture:&nbsp;<strong>Hannah LaRose<\/strong>, Independent member<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Division (ages 9-13)<\/strong><br \/>\nNature\/landscape:&nbsp;<strong>Linda Jessiman<\/strong>, Cobscook Currents 4-H Club<br \/>\nPeople:&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;Soren Danielson<\/strong>, Cobscook Currents<br \/>\nAnimals and 4-H activity:&nbsp;<strong>Lily April<\/strong>, Independent member<br \/>\nArchitecture and storyboard:&nbsp;<strong>Jenilyn LaRose<\/strong>, Independent member<\/p>\n<p>Cloverbud 4-H members, ages 5-8, received participation ribbons.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the judges selected a Judge&#8217;s Choice.&nbsp; Those selected were:<br \/>\n<strong>Tabitha LaRose<\/strong>, Independent, for her piece titled&nbsp;<em>Little Sister Planting Veteran&#8217;s Flags<\/em>.<br \/>\n<strong>Soren Danielson<\/strong>, Cobscook Currents, for two of his photos,<em>&nbsp;Inside Outside<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>One of My Many Cousins<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>[ngg src=&#8221;galleries&#8221; ids=&#8221;5&#8243; display=&#8221;basic_thumbnail&#8221; thumbnail_crop=&#8221;0&#8243;]All photos are on display downstairs at the Porter Memorial Library in Machias through the month of October.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about 4-H, contact Jen Lobley, at 207.255.3345; 1.800.287.1542 (toll free within Maine), or by email at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:jennifer.lobley@maine.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">jennifer.lobley@maine.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: garamond, times new roman, serif;font-size: large\">About University of Maine Cooperative Extension: As a trusted resource for over 100 years, University of Maine Cooperative Extension has supported UMaine&#8217;s land and sea grant public education role by conducting community-driven, research-based programs in every Maine county.
