It is open to ALL 4-H members, friends, and family in Hancock and neighboring counties.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"8298\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8298\" src=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/hancock\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2020\/03\/June-Jamboree-e1585147467179-272x300.jpg\" alt=\"June Jamboree\" width=\"187\" height=\"206\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo taken during June Jamboree 2019<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>June Jamboree features a weekend of hands-on workshops covering topics such as:&nbsp;science, art, crafts, physical activity, nutrition, animals, demonstrations, and animal project clinics. Fun for the entire family, all ages welcome!<\/p>\n<p>This event is typically held at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds during the first weekend in June, with overnight camping available. In 2021, we\u2019re celebrating June Jamboree a little differently! 4-H Jamboree 2021 will be spread out from June 5th through July 11th. Similar to last year, activities\/kits will be delivered to your home for youth to participate in activities at home. However, we will also be offering in-person workshops at different locations throughout the county. All in-person workshops will be limited in size, registration required, and with COVID-19 precautions in place.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to the Hancock County 4-H Leaders Association for sponsoring this event.<\/p>\n<h2>4-H Jamboree 2021<\/h2>\n<h3>June 5th \u2013 July 11th, 2021<br \/>\nTheme: Full STEAM Ahead!<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"#works\">How It Works<\/a> | <a href=\"#schedule\">Schedule<\/a> | <a href=\"#activities\">Activities<\/a> |<a href=\"#workshops\">Workshops<\/a> | <a href=\"#animal\">Animal Clinics<\/a>| <a href=\"#camping\">Camping<\/a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href=\"#expectations\">Expectations<\/a> |&nbsp;<a href=\"#registration\">Registration<\/a>| <a href=\"#submit\">Submit Photos &amp; Videos<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"works\"><\/a>How It Works<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Sign up for the activities you are interested in doing during June \u2013 July, using the Registration Form below\n<ul>\n<li>Activities relate to this year\u2019s theme: <em>Full STEAM Ahead! <\/em>(STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering &amp; Environment, Art, and Mathematics. ) All activities will incorporate hands-on, experiential learning and will get youth outdoors to enjoy the beginning of summer!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>We will mail a kit to your home with instructions and simple materials to complete the activity\n<ul>\n<li>We are following CDC and UMaine guidance when assembling kits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>There are a limited number of in-person workshops spread out throughout the county. Submit your photos to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/4hjamboree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> OR the <a href=\"#submit\">form<\/a>below<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a id=\"activities\"><\/a>At-Home Activities<\/h3>\n<p>All 4-H Jamboree at-home activities are designed to be done outdoors and relate to our theme, <em>Full STEAM Ahead! <\/em>Adult supervision is required for all at-home activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introducing 4-H in Hancock County<\/strong> | <em>Science, Technology, Environment, Engineering, Art, Mathemathics<\/em>| If you\u2019re interested in learning more about 4-H, check out this kit filled with activities geared to get you and your family psyched about 4-H in Hancock County! Includes information on how to enroll in 4-H.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outdoor Survival<\/strong> | <em>Science, Environment, Engineering | <\/em>Learn some basic outdoor survival techniques. This packet includes how to make a paracord bracelet, outdoor fort, and more!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Build a Boat<\/strong> | <em>Science, <\/em><em>Engineering | <\/em>Design and construct your own boat out of aluminum foil. Learn about basic engineering principles \u2014 see how far your boat can support a load of pennies!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ellsworth Public Library\u2019s Reading List<\/strong> <em>| Science | <\/em>The Ellsworth Public Library has put together a reading list of science books for youth. Check out the list and see how many you can read throughout Jamboree!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grow a Garden<\/strong> | <em>Science, Environment, Basic Math | <\/em>This kit will include easy to grow seeds that you can plant season-round, along with gardening tips &amp; tricks!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discover Birds<\/strong>| <em>Science, Environment, Technology | <\/em>This kit will include information on Basic Birding Techniques, How to Set Up a Bird Feeder, Build a Hummingbird Feeder, and How to Use eBird to Identify Birds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nature Journaling |<\/strong> <em>Science, Environment, Technology | <\/em>This kit will include information on how to start a nature journal and use different journaling techniques, from drawing to writing to using your phone!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blue Hill Heritage Trust Scavenger Hunt<\/strong> | <em>Environment, Technology|<\/em> Explore Carter Nature Preserve in Surry through two different scavenger hunts. If you want, contribute your observations via eBird or iNaturalist! <em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Frenchman Bay Conservancy Scavenger Hunt<\/strong> | <em>Science, <\/em><em>Environment, Technology| <\/em>Explore Baker Hill Preserve in Sullivan and see if you can find all of the notable flora &amp; features. Share your observations via eBird or naturalist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Photo Contest Scavenger Hunt |<\/strong> <em>Technology, Environment <\/em><strong>| <\/strong>Take as many photos as you can and then submit them to the 2021 Photo Contest. Detailed information included!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geocaching across the County |<\/strong> <em>Technology, Environment | <\/em>Learn the basics of geocaching \u2014 find all of the 4-H caches in Hancock County.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"workshops\"><\/a>In-Person Workshops<\/h3>\n<p><em>All workshops, unless otherwise noted, are limited to ten youth participants.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"tomato\"><\/a>Tomato in a Bucket | <\/strong><em>Science, Environment | <\/em>June 5th, 2:30 \u2013 4:00 pm; University of Maine Cooperative Extension Hancock County Office in Ellsworth, Maine<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn how to transplant a tomato seedling and how to grow and care for it in a bucket. Youth will leave with a tomato plant, bucket, and small Ziploc of fertilizer.&nbsp; Taught by Master Gardener and 4-H Community Education Assistant, Zabet NeuCollins.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"orienteering\"><\/a>Intro to Orienteering <em>|<\/em><\/strong><em> Environment, Technology | <\/em>June 12th, 2:30 \u2013 4:00 pm; Hatch Cove Preserve in Castine, Maine<\/p>\n<p>Orienteering is a sport that involves navigating through unfamiliar terrain with a compass and a detailed map. In this workshop, we\u2019ll discuss the basics, then set off on a \u201ctreasure hunt\u201d to find a series of marked checkpoints. Maps will be provided, and compasses will be available to borrow if needed. Taught by Tim Parson. <strong><em>Ages 10+.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"paint\"><\/a>Paint with Felt<\/strong> | <em>Environment, Art | <\/em>June 26th, 9:30 \u2013 11 am; ArtWaves in Town Hill, Maine<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn how to paint a landscape with felt and will leave with their own felt painting. Taught by Liz Cutler, founder of ArtWaves.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"wind\"><\/a>Build a Wind Vane |<\/strong> <em>Environment, Science, Engineering |<\/em> July 10th, 11 \u2013 12:30 pm; Lone Spruce Farm in Dedham, Maine<\/p>\n<p>Learn how to make your own wind vane and track the direction the wind is blowing! Taught by Kristin Beauchamp, owner of Lone Spruce Farm and a volunteer for The National Weather Service. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and have a self-guided picnic on the premises with their family afterward.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Summer Opportunities<\/h3>\n<p>Maine 4-H will offer virtual experiential learning workshops and clubs to youth ages 5-18 throughout June, July, and August 2021. Topics range from engineering, art, science, animals &amp; agriculture, food &amp; nutrition, teen leadership, and more. Check it out: <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.umaine.edu\/4h\/4-h-summer-learning\/\">4-H Summer Learning Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"camping\"><\/a>Camping<\/h3>\n<p>Most of you are out of school by June 18th\u2026 We encourage youth and their households to spend a night camping outdoors in their own backyard that weekend (or any weekend during Jamboree)! Many of you would have been camping in your tents or RVs for Jamboree weekend at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds \u2013 why not continue this tradition from home?! It can be fun to experience your backyard from a new perspective! If desired, participants can receive smore supplies!<\/p>\n<p>The Camping Kick-Off will begin on the weekend of June 5th-6th, but we encourage you to camp in your backyard anytime during Jamboree.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to submit your photos and videos of your campground to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/4hjamboree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June Jamboree Facebook Group<\/a> OR in the <a href=\"#submit\">form<\/a> below.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"expectations\"><\/a>Expectations<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Adult supervision is required for all 4-H at-home activities<\/li>\n<li>Be respectful and participate fully in the program<\/li>\n<li>Treat the materials and kits with respect and be prepared to return them to the Extension Office at some point in the future<\/li>\n<li>Abide by all UMaine and State\/Federal safety guidelines (this may include some restrictions due to COVID-19)<\/li>\n<li>Submit photo\/video documentation of your participation in this event<\/li>\n<li>HAVE FUN!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a id=\"registration\"><\/a>Registration<\/h3>\n<p>Registration runs from May 5th through May 30th!
