NEW! Spring Nature Journaling Series: Bookbinding, Techniques, and the Trail

Following an introductory session about nature journaling and bookbinding, we’ll dive into nature journaling basics and then apply what we have learned off site at a nearby Great Works Regional Land Trust trail. Sign up early! Space is limited.

  • Week 1: Bookbinding and Personalizing Your Journal Join Rebecca Tay from York County 4-H and bind your own nature journal for use in this series. Once your have sewn your journal, design a cover, and look at sample nature journal entires.

  • Week 2: Introduction to Nature Journaling  Start your first entry by observing natural materials brought into the classroom.  How can you record what you notice on paper?  What can you draw, and how can you use words and numbers to describe the natural objects?

March 23rd, 9:30-11 AM

  • Week 3: Nature Journaling on the Trail  In this weather-dependent field session, take your new journal onto the trail and complete your first outdoor entry. What do you notice? What do you wonder? Make notes using drawing, words, and numbers in your journal. Please dress for the weather!

Who: Youth ages 5-18.  Enrollment in 4-H is not required. Caregivers must be available to assist during the classroom sessions for youth under age 10. The classroom sessions are not appropriate for siblings under age 5.

Bring your curiosity and observation skills, and start a nature journal from scratch in this three part series open to youth aged 5+. You don’t need to be an artist to benefit from nature journaling: learn different techniques and record what is happening in nature at that very moment.

Nature Journaling Walks

Join Rebecca Tay from York County 4-H to start a nature journal as we explore local Great Works Regional Land Trust preserves.  You don’t need to be an artist to benefit from nature journaling.  Learn different techniques and observe what is happening in nature at that moment. Each meeting will have a different theme. Basic nature journaling supplies will be provided for use including a simple journal, clipboard, pens, and pencils.
