Maine Wildlife Habitat Education Program<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Do you like wild animals, trees, and the environment? Are you thinking about pursuing a career in land stewardship or wildlife management? Then you might like the Wildlife Habitat Education Program! WHEP is a 4-H and FFA program aimed at educating young people about wildlife habitat management.<\/p>\n

Winter Tracking Workshop<\/h3>\n

At this hands-on workshop, learn how to spot and identify animal tracks in the snow and mud. Experts from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will lead on a nature walk as you look for signs of animals. Then, you will examine the preserved animal skins and skulls of some of the common wildlife we have here in Maine. Youth and adults interested in getting involved with Maine Wildlife Habitat Education Program will be able to talk with a Maine 4-H representative at the end of the workshop.<\/p>\n

When:<\/strong> February 23rd<\/sup>, 2022 from 9:30 am-12:30pm<\/p>\n

Where:<\/strong> Center for Wildlife, in Cape Neddick, Maine<\/p>\n

Who Can Attend: <\/strong>The program is geared towards youth ages 8-19, but families and younger kids are welcome to join.<\/p>\n

Cost:<\/strong> Free, but pre-registration required (details below)<\/p>\n

What to Bring:\u00a0 <\/strong>A bag lunch, binoculars if you have them, snowshoes*, weather appropriate clothing.<\/p>\n

* let us know if you don\u2019t have access to snowshoes; we may have a few loaner pairs available on a first come, first serve basis.<\/p>\n

Planned Activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n

9:30-10 am — Welcome session and introductions<\/p>\n

10-11:30 am – Nature walk and winter track ID featuring MDIFW wildlife biologists<\/p>\n

11:30-noon \u2013 Explore skins, skulls, and tracks of Maine\u2019s wildlife<\/p>\n

12-12:30 pm \u2013 Wrap-up and information session about the participating in the Maine WHEP program.<\/p>\n

Participant Responsibilities and Expectations<\/h4>\n
