UMaine Extension to host soil health day in York County
Alfred, Maine — University of Maine Cooperative Extension in York County is offering a soil health workshop from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Friday, December 13 at the York County office, 45 Kennebunk Rd., Alfred.
This workshop will provide growers with practice guidance to address soil health concerns and build healthier soils for long-term success. Topic will include cover cropping, farming in clay, and accessing state and federal resources to confront soil challenges. Workshop presenters are Matt Boucher from Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Jason Lilley from UMaine Extension, Meg Mitchell from Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and South Paw Farm, Amy Sprague from Wolf Pine Farm, and Daniela Aldrich from Dancing Harvest Farm. The event will also feature a farmer panel on soil health strategies for climate resiliency.
In addition to the presenters, representatives from Maine Farmland Trust, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Maine Wellness Programs, Farm Credit East, and Northeast SARE will be on hand with information for growers.
