4-H National Youth Science Day Experiment train-the-trainer workshop will offer 1.5 hours of professional development for 4-H volunteers, after-school and child care providers, teachers, or library staff.

The workshop will be delivered via distance learning, to sites around the state. Participate in a two-hour workshop introducing this year’s 4-H National Youth Science Day Experiment “Code Your World.”

Participants will

  • be introduced to 4-H Science curriculum that’s research-based and easy to use;
  • learn how to deliver 4-H “Code Your World,” a set of four introductory computer science activities;
  • receive curriculum and materials to deliver 4-H “Code Your World” with youth; and
  • be asked to host at least one National Youth Science Day (NYSD) experiment with youth, within two months of training.

Participants must complete the full training to receive certificate and materials. Successful completion of the program includes materials for 10 people to complete the 4-H “Code Your World” experiment.

More information about the 2018 4-H National Youth Science Day Experiment

4-H National Youth Science Day (NYSD) is the world’s largest youth-led science experiment. This October, 4‑H and Google will launch an exciting National Youth Science Day challenge, Code Your World, inviting kids to get involved in computer science (CS) through hands-on doing. The national NYSD celebration kicks off October 1, and coding events can take place all throughout October.

NYSD is an exciting, interactive learning experience that engages thousands of youth across the country in conducting the National Science Experiment. Code Your World is a four-part challenge that teaches kids ages 8-14 to apply CS to the world around them through hands-on activities. Developed by Google and West Virginia University Extension Service, it includes a computer-based activity on Google’s CS First platform and three unplugged activities that bring coding to life through games and interaction.
