Alex was born, raised, and lived in Kentucky his entire life. He initially studied languages (specifically French) at the University of Kentucky and taught abroad in France for some time. Shortly after this experience, he returned to school to obtain a degree in Dietetics at the University of Kentucky, where he spent a considerable amount of time in rural eastern Kentucky helping volunteer for a grant-funded research project. During this time and throughout the entirety of his dietetic internship, Alex gained a passion for research, community nutrition, and working with food insecure/low-income populations to make healthier food choices and to better access food.
Alex has been an integral part of the EFNEP team since 2020 helping to support and train Community Education Assistants (CEAs) in the southern part of Maine who provide food and nutrition education to low-income youth and adults. Through his role as Youth Curriculum Coordinator, Alex has been able to offer support, training, and resources to EFNEP team members regarding youth curricula and youth development.
Alex believes that all people within the state of Maine (and nationally and globally) should have access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally-appropriate food, and he hopes to further this ethos in his work for EFNEP.
