Is there a yellow rose that is hardy to Maine?

Question:

Is there a yellow rose that is hardy to Maine?

Answer:

Jonathan Foster, Special Project Assistant

I’ve done a bit of research into yellow roses hardy for Maine and have a few resources for you to consider:

Iowa State Univ Extension page on Griffith Buck roses (Dr. Buck spent his career developing roses hardy in the Iowa climate–a brief sampling turned up ‘Prairie Star,’ ‘Golden Princess,’ and ‘Sunbonnet Sue’ as yellow offerings.

UVermont’s Dr Leonard Perry page on winter rose care (unfortunately, many of the links on this page are defunct since Dr Perry’s retirement, but there is mention made of David Austin roses being cold hardy to zone 4. Also Dr. Perry did conduct rose hardiness research for New England, so his work may be what you’ve seen before.)

MOFGA page on growing roses (good general information that may or may not be useful to you, but the author also mentions Griffith Buck roses)

Hopefully, this gives you a good starting point for identifying some new roses you like and can try.
