My Quince flowering plant only has blossoms half way up the branches. How do I fix this?

Question:

I have a beautiful and healthy Quince flowering plant, but the flowers only appear to blossom half way up the branches.  How can I fix this?

Answer:

Viña Lindley, Food Systems & Home Horticulture Professional

The flowers of quince are born on old growth (last year’s branches) which is why you’d only see flowers on the lower parts of the branches.  If you want to stimulate flowering, wait until after it has finished flowering and use a sharp pair of bypass hand pruners or loppers to prune, this pruning will stimulate new growth of flowering spurs which will increase blooms the following year.
