UMaine Extension to hold business workshop for livestock producers

Waldo, Maine — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will hold an Introduction to the Business of Livestock Production workshop on Tuesday, August 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Waldo County Extension office, 992 Waterville Road.

Participants will explore the business of livestock production including marketing of livestock products, enterprise budgeting, and what to know when drafting an initial business plan. The workshop will help new or small farmers move from a backyard operation to a commercial business and gain a better understanding of the costs associated with a livestock enterprise.

Speakers for the workshop include Brett Johnson, UMaine Extension sustainable agriculture and farm business management educator; Colt W. Knight, associate Extension professor at UMaine and state livestock specialist; and JJ Jones, area agricultural economics specialist with Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension.
