Aquaculture Anywhere: The Power of Learning through Virtual Field Trips
Maine’s 4-H Aquaculture programs expanded to include Virtual Field Trips (VFTs) in 2024, connecting youth globally with industry experts and sustainable aquaculture practices. These immersive experiences, accessible via web browsers and virtual reality tools, connect youth with industry experts, showcase cutting-edge technologies and offer a deep understanding of sustainable aquaculture’s role in Maine’s food systems. In 2024, 2,858 youth from Maine to Canada, Europe, and Asia explored the 4-H Virtual Field Trip. They gained access to educational resources and career pathways in aquaculture, building foundational knowledge in technology, water quality management, sustainable farming and system design. The program fosters a deeper understanding of Maine’s food systems and promotes economic growth within the Blue Economy.
