Many organizations and community groups rely on volunteers to prepare food for fundraisers, fellowship events, food pantries and other community activities. Cooking for Crowds is a food safety workshop designed for volunteers who cook for large groups.
Led by UMaine Extension Food Safety Professional Laurie Bowen, the workshop covers safe food storage, cooking, handling and buffet service. Participants receive the Cooking for Crowds manual, a certificate of attendance, posters and thermometers. The class meets Good Shepherd Food Bank food safety training requirements.
The workshop will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at UMaine Extension Penobscot County Office, 307 Maine Ave., Bangor. The cost is $15. Registration is required by 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants, and at least six participants are required for the class to be held.
