How do you remove a groundhog from a foundation rock wall?

A groundhog has taken up residence in a foundation rock wall. What can I do to get rid of it permanently?

Donna R. Coffin, Extension Professor

Woodchucks or groundhogs can cause significant damage to a home garden, so you will want to either have this one removed or plan to use an electric fence for your garden next spring.

The Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife have a site devoted to Woodchucks that have a number of links to other sites that offer control or management information.

This time of year, they are usually solitary and are getting ready to hibernate during the winter. You can try to live trap them with apples as bait, but you need to have a plan about how and where you are going to release them.

There are animal damage control agents that you can contact about removing this animal.
