Our main focus for our volunteers is to weed and maintain our formal New England Garden. This garden is used often by the Governor and becomes a wonderful place for her to host and entertain guests. We also provide historical tours of the house to the public and we will send our tour groups through the garden to admire the grounds and the hard work that our volunteers and staff put into the property. There are many other garden beds around the property that we also need help with, and when there isn’t much to do in the formal New England Garden, we will start to move our volunteers around the property to further assist in weeding and pruning and general maintenance of the many plants that we have around the large property. We have an apple orchard in the back yard with heritage trees representing each of the 16 Maine counties. We also have a vegetable garden, an herb garden, a cutting garden, a pollinator garden with two beehives, a bed of blueberry bushes, and so many more plants all around the perimeter and walkways of the grounds.
