Lewiston and Auburn Community Gardens

Address: 208 Bates St., Lewiston, ME

The community gardens in Lewiston and Auburn are managed by the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center whose mission is to bring people together to collectively imagine and build a just food system and healthy community. There are 10 community gardens across Lewiston and Auburn where 160+ families have plots, plus a few demonstration/learning gardens and a community orchard. We are excited to have volunteers to: -help mentor new gardeners -offer kids programing -maintain extra beds for donations We have regular “office hours” at the gardens weekday evenings May-Oct but also have other workblocks at other times and a need for weekend waterers especially in the spring. This coming season we’ll be looking for help on some bigger bed replacement projects- replacing wooden beds with concrete blocks and creating hugelkulture/lasagna garden beds with branches, leaves and compost. And if any volunteers interest or skill- such as fruit tree care, invasives removal, planting/maintaining beneficial borders, compost system maintanance, etc. please talk to us about opportunities!
